Samsung Galaxy S II now available on US Cellular, arrives in stores tomorrow

Galaxy S II

As we predicted last week, the Galaxy S II will arrive in US Cellular stores tomorrow, March 1, with online availability beginning today. The award winning smartphone will cost you $229.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a two year contract (you'll get another $100 off if you're a new customer), and will surf on the carrier's 3G network rather than its soon-to-launch LTE wavelengths.

It's the same Galaxy S II you've grown to love, complete with a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.2 Ghz dual-core Exynos processor, and 16 GB internal storage. It's shipping with Gingerbread, and US Cellular hasn't made its Android 4.0-update plans clear as of yet, though we're hoping they'll keep on top of it.

Those of you who've been patiently waiting can grab yours today at the source link, or sit tight and head into a US Cellular retail location tomorrow.

Hands-on with the Acer Iconia Tab A700

Acer A700

We dropped in to visit the folks at Acer and have a look at the Iconia A700, and it's impressive. The first thing you notice is how thin and light it is (9.9mm and 600grams, respectively), and then you turn it on. The 1920 x 1200 resolution will absolutely blow you away, and the quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 inside pushes all those pixels nice and smoothly.

Acer's also made the A700 a complete media center. You have HDMI out, as well as HDMI to VGA support so you can use a projector, and the microUSB port supports USB host mode so you can connect things like your camera through the included micro to full size USB adapter. Now the switch to MHL in Ice Cream Sandwich (which the A700 ships with -- no "update soon" nonsense here) makes more sense. Add in features like Dolby Mobile 5.1 HD audio output and a microSD card slot, and this looks like one of the tablets to buy in 2012.

LG Optimus 3D Max hands-on (video)

While we haven't seen 3D phones take the world by storm just yet, that hasn't stopped LG refining its Optimus 3D series. Mobile World Congress 2012 has been hit by the Optimus 3D Max and it's faster, thinner and, well, just plain better looking. Unfortunately, there's been less progress on the software side; this dual-lens Android phone is still wearing last year's Gingerbread jacket. Our full first impressions and video awaits, after the gallery, below.

ViewSonic's ViewPhone 4e hands-on (video)

The ViewSonic ViewPhone 4e -- the downmarket sibling of the ViewPhone 4s -- launched at MWC today and unlike the 4s, the 4e was essentially feature complete. This dual SIM set will ship with Android 2.3.x Gingerbread, a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 display, a 3-megapixel camera, and an FM radio. We had a chance to see it in both yellow and a truly garish pink hue and the housings are impressively solid and while they may not come in our favorite colors, they're at least fun. While not as tack sharp as the ViewPhone 4s' IPS display, the 4e looked just fine and the the quick UI tour didn't show any obvious slowdowns or stuttering from its 650Mhz CPU. We're expecting this to launch in Europe before June for about $350.
Zach Honig contributed to this report.
